Doctors
Michael Slattery
Dr. Mike Slattery hails from Winthrop, IA where he grew up helping his father Dr. Jim Slattery in his large animal veterinary clinic. In 2009, Dr. Mike graduated from Iowa State with a degree in Animal Science, he then went on to graduate as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from ISU in 2013.
Immediately after graduation Dr. Mike joined the staff at Risius Family Veterinary Service, specifically as the veterinarian in the Maquoketa office. In 2015, he joined the ownership team as partner.
Professionally, Dr. Mike enjoys preventative medicine and diagnostics in beef cattle and feedlot medicine, and is currently a member of:
- Iowa Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA), also serves on Executive Board as District 13 Representative
- American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)
- American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP)
- Academy of Veterinary Consultants (AVC)
- Society for Theriogenologists (SFT)
Jeannett Clampitt
Dr. Jeannett Clampitt grew up most of her life in Independence, Iowa. She went to Iowa State University and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and minor in Business in 2017. She then continued onto graduate school at Iowa State University and graduated with a Masters in Microbiology doing research in vaccine development for Mycoplasma species in cattle, pigs, and chickens. While finishing her research she decided to go to Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2023 with her DVM. She joined as an associate at Risius Family Veterinary Clinic right after graduation.
Dr. Jeannett is one of our mixed animal doctors. She spends time at both the Maquoketa clinic doing large animal medicine as well as the Eldridge clinic doing both small animal and large animal appointments. She enjoys working with clients and helping educate them about their animal’s health and helping improve herd health in livestock species. She is a member of:

Jake
Jake joined the Risius Staff in February 2013 by helping with cattle work at the Maquoketa Sale Barn. In August 2014, Jake became the full time assistant to Dr. Mike in the Maquoketa office.
Jake attended Iowa Central Community College and has always been interested in the veterinary field and especially in ranching, so this opportunity seemed like a perfect match.
In Jake’s spare time he enjoys rodeo ranch sorting, hunting and fishing.
Stacie
Stacie joined the Maquoketa office in April 2014, she has always had an interest in the veterinary field but had not previously worked in the field. When the opportunity to work with Dr. Mike in Maquoketa arose, she was excited to make a career change.
Stacie graduated from Maquoketa high school and then went to Clarke College in Dubuque for social work.
Outside of work Stacie enjoys reading, painting, and surfing Netflix. During the summer months you will find Stacie out on the river and spending time with her dog Gunner. Stacie has really enjoyed learning about large animal care and vaccine protocols.
