Dr. Abby Bowers has been around the clinic since she was born. Her father, Dr. Dale Risius, started Risius Family Veterinary Service in 1980 and it has been a family owned practice ever since. Dr. Abby grew up in the North Scott area, attended Truman State University, and then Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2007 and moved back home to join the practice.
She became part owner of the practice in 2010. Dr. Abby loves being a veterinarian in her home town because she is able to get to know people and build relationships. She enjoys leading such a great staff and believes in educating clients so they can work as a team with our staff and veterinarians to improve the health and wellness of their pets. Dr. Abby has taken a special interest (and additional Continuing Education) in small animal dentistry. She has been instrumental in redesigning a portion of the clinic to offer improved dental treatment capabilities, including the addition of a dental x-ray unit.

Outside of work, Abby enjoys spending time with her family which includes her husband Mark, daughters Amelia, Cleo, Miriam, and Hannah, her dogs Lizzie and Crosley, and her cat Stevie. She also enjoys cooking and being involved with the missions & outreach team at North Ridge Community Church.
